An unknown author once wrote:
“Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.”
Almost three years since the original vision came to mind for Change the Balance, and seemingly no closer to seeing the vision realized, it has become tempting for me to simply abandon the idea of developing the organization all together. Yet the truth is, it is rare for me to go very long without realizing the need within our communities for the essentials of life that even I probably take for granted – food, warmth, love, safety – and being reminded of the potential that Change the Balance has to help those desperately in need of these essentials.
I recently read about the work that Greg Mortenson has done to cultivate education and peace within Pakistan and Afghanistan. Inspired and in awe, I wondered how he managed to do everything he’s done. After days and days of pondering and searching for some elaborate formula, I realized that it partially came down to the most basic of reasons – he just did it.
With nothing to lose and everything to gain, I remain committed to fulfilling the mission and vision of Change the Balance and invite anyone who is interested to join me in my journey.
